Prithvi Shaw joins Maharashtra at the start of the domestic season in 2025–2026.
Prithvi Shaw will play domestic cricket for Maharashtra starting in 2025–2026. Shaw asked for a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch teams from Mumbai last month, and he was given one in late June.
I think playing for the Maharashtra team will help me
develop as a cricket player at this point in my career," Shaw said in a
statement. "The Mumbai Cricket Association has provided me with many
opportunities and assistance throughout the years, for which I am incredibly
thankful.
Rohit Pawar, the president of Maharashtra Cricket, stated
that the squad will "firmly behind Prithvi in his new journey" for
the upcoming seasons and that Shaw's international and IPL experience would be
beneficial.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to lead Shaw at
Maharashtra. They were eliminated from their group in the Ranji Trophy last
season after winning only two of their seven straight games. They were
eliminated in the first round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy due to their
3-3 group stage record.
However, Maharashtra had a great run and won their group in
the Vijay Hazare Trophy before losing to Vidarbha in the semi-final.
Shaw was removed from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team last year
because to his lack of discipline and poor health, despite having 4556 runs at
46.02 in 58 first-class matches. In December 2024, he last played for Mumbai in
the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. He has 3399 runs at 55.72 and a strike-rate
of 125.74 in List-A games. His 2902 runs in T20 cricket have come at an average
of 25.01 and a strike-rate of 151.54. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, he went
unsold.
